Forget You Own Your Mortgage Website
If you are intimately familiar with your website like I am with mine, then you may be blind to various weaknesses your website has. It’s only natural. When you see something on a daily basis, you begin to not see it at all. The invisibility of familiarity.
So what does this have to do with online mortgage marketing? Everything. From a marketing perspective, we all have flaws with our websites. That’s okay, as long as you can figure out a way to identify and fix those flaws. But identifying them is the hard part!
Internet Marketing Exercise
Here’s a simple exercise to help you “step outside” of yourself and view your mortgage marketing website with fresh eyes. Pretend for a moment that your mortgage website belongs to a stranger. Now pretend you are being paid to evaluate the website as honestly as possible. Now print out the following questions and visit the home page of your mortgage website:
- Within the first ten seconds, do you see anything of value to you?
- Is the navigation logical? Can you immediately find your way around?
- Do you see anything worth digging deeper for?
- Does the website suggest professionalism and attention to detail?
- Does this website give you confidence in the owner?
- Does the website make you want to learn more? Why or why not?
I hope this exercise helps you find areas of your mortgage website you might improve upon. Once you’ve done it with your home page, you should visit your other important pages and ask the same questions.
Better yet, ask a friend to do it for you … somebody known for their brutal honesty!
